When a stray dog befriended me at a time when my father was very ill I came to realize how healing a dog/human relationship can be, not only in such high emotional times but also with the stresses of everyday life.
What has been your most challenging dog so far?
A three year old scottie who had developed an aggression towards other dogs. I’m pleased to say that he now walks calmly on the lead and can approach other dogs without fear.
How do you think people can benefit from training their dog or puppy?
Helping people to trust in the process of training can give owners calmness and confidence in their own abilities which can flow on into their lives in general. Knowing that no relationship of any real depth matures overnight, helps people understand that commitment to training is very much worthwhile.
Tell me about some of the more common dog problems you have met?
General lack of obedience such as pulling on the lead, jumping up, chewing and playbiting, digging, aggression, dominance, recall, separation anxiety…
Where do you train and do you use treats?
I train in your home and help you bond with your dog using touch, voice and body language. Any treats used are soon phased out.
What breed of dog do you train?
All dogs – small and large – while different things may motivate different dogs, they all have the same basic learning pattern.
